Simplicity Displays Legacy XL 4WD Subcompact Garden Tractor at Expo 2004

Port Washington, Wis., (September 24, 2004) — Simplicity Manufacturing, Inc., displayed its rugged four-wheel drive Legacy XL subcompact garden tractor. Combining the toughness of a compact tractor with the comfort and control of a garden tractor, the Legacy XL offers performance and reliability that is unmatched in the subcompact garden tractor category.

The Legacy XL is available in three powerful 27-hp engine choices. The first is a V-twin, air-cooled Kohler Command™ featuring cast iron cylinder liners, a mechanical fuel pump, hydraulic valve lifters, a 15-amp charging system and an external oil cooler. The second is a liquid-cooled Kawasaki V-twin with radiator, fan and water pump. It features cast iron cylinder liners, a 20-amp charging system and an electric fuel pump. The third engine option is a Briggs & Stratton Daihatsu three-cylinder, in-line diesel. Liquid-cooled with radiator, fan and water pump, it also features a pre-chamber fuel injection system and 40-amp charging system. All three engine choices offer full pressure oil lubrication.

All Legacy XL models feature a 500 cold cranking amp battery, large five-inch muffler and a 5.5-gallon fuel tank with large filler neck.

A Tuff Torq K92 transmission provides plenty of hydraulic capacity for powering the tractor and large attachments like a front-end loader. It features:

• Shaft-drive from the engine with cooling fan
• Automatic Controlled Traction™
• Differential lock
• Internal "wet" disc brakes
• Internal hydraulic PTO for all mowers, front- and rear-attachments
• Four-wheel drive models have on-the-go shifting between 2- and 4-wheel drive. (The Legacy XL is also available with two-wheel drive in each engine option.)

The Legacy XL is newly redesigned with a ½-inch-thick front frame and heavy cast-iron front axles that allow the Legacy XL to tackle jobs other garden tractors cannot handle.

Customers can select a 48-, 54- or 60-inch mower deck. Any size mower can be matched with any engine choice. All mowers are shaft-driven and Free Floating™ with full-width rollers.

The Legacy XL can handle a wide variety of attachments which means it can be used to perform a wide variety of chores. "We've designed a front-end loader especially for this tractor," says Harold Redman, vice president of sales, marketing and product development for Simplicity. "Featuring a walk on/off design, it's easy to attach, easy to operate and can be removed in a matter of seconds," he says.

Other front attachments offered include a dozer blade that can be easily attached and features hydraulic lifting and angling, as well as single- and two-stage snowthowers up to 47-inches wide.

The Legacy XL is also able to handle the toughest rear attachments thanks to a limited category "1" three-point hitch with an available rear 540-rpm PTO (standard on most four-wheel drive units). It will operate a 50-inch tiller plus other rear implements.

The transmission will operate the mid/front PTO or the rear PTO either together or separately with a simple touch of a lever.

A four-way hydraulic joystick provides complete control of all attachments. Back and forth raises and lowers all attachments; side-to-side curls and empties the front-end loader bucket or angles the dozer blade; and locked forward allows attachments to float with no down pressure.

Operator comfort features include:

• Easy-adjust high-back seat with tapered seat springs
• Color-coded controls within easy reach of the operator
• Soft-touch steering wheel with tilt adjustment
• Power steering and cruise control are standard
• Halogen headlights and taillights
• Easy-to-read instrument panel featuring white gauges and indicator lights, 12 volt power outlet, electric height of cut, cup holder, storage area
• Side-by-side forward/reverse drive pedals
